Four frontiers, one lab

QEEI works across the full stack of optoelectronic and semiconductor devices, from the crystals and thin films up to the systems that use them.

01

Quantum Devices & Superconducting Qubits

We are building expertise in the materials, fabrication, and characterization of superconducting qubits and quantum-sensing devices, connecting semiconductor processing know-how to the demands of quantum information.

02

Radiation Detectors & TRISO Fuel

Room-temperature cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) gamma- and X-ray detectors, developed with Brookhaven National Laboratory's nonproliferation group, alongside work on TRISO nuclear fuel materials. We fabricate, polish, and characterize CZT crystals and analyze detector spectra and transport.

03

AI & Medical Devices

Machine learning and deep learning accelerate the design and performance prediction of imaging devices, with methods extending toward sensing and diagnostics for medical applications.

04

Perovskite Photovoltaics

Low-cost perovskite thin-film solar cells for flexible electronics, with power-conversion efficiencies exceeding 21%. We also pursue perovskite-silicon tandems and lead-free perovskites, targeting efficient, inexpensive, solution-processed devices.
